Discussion Topic: 2019 NCWA Nationals Results for Ohio Wrestlers
Jeff Streu added to this discussion on March 17, 2019

The NCWA National Championships concluded last night, and Ohio had good representation. Here are team scores:

The University of Toledo: 8th overall and 8th in D1
The University of Akron: 11th overall and 9th in D1
Kent State University at Tuscarawas: 17th overall and 13th in D1
The Ohio State University Wrestling Club: 27th overall and 11th in D2

As has been the case since 2010, two team scores are kept for the same individual tournament. This year Akron was moved up to D1. The University of Akron has improved their team placement each year since first competing in 2014-2015. KSU-Tuscarawas, only a second year program, has made big improvements as well. Of the four Ohio teams, every single qualifier won at least one match and contributed to the team score - great TEAM effort by all four teams.

Here are 2019 NCWA All-Americans with Ohio ties:
Elijah Nash, 7th, 125, Kent State Tuscarawas (Canton McKinley)
Deante Evans, 4th, 133, University of Toledo (Lakota East)
Zach Blevins, 2nd, 149, University of Toledo (Dundee HS, Dundee, MI)
Al Caserta, 6th, 157, Ohio State University WC (Olentangy)
Brice Locklear, 8th, 174, University of Akron (Olmsted Falls)
Major Moore, 2nd, 174, University of Toledo (Willard)
Kyler Slade, 7th, 197, Ohio State University WC (Olentangy)
Mitchell Bischoff, 3rd, 285, University of Akron (Norton)

Also worth mentioning is that our conference, the Great Lakes Conference, had four teams in the top 11 and five in the top 17. Over a quarter of the All-Americans were from our conference.
