Discussion Topic: How does Slymans compare to Mr. Brisket?

A Facebook friend just posted on his page that he really likes Slymans' corned beef and that he can't get it in Columbus. I had never heard of the place. Is it tough competition for Mr Brisket? The sandwich looked loaded with corned beef.

I won't get into a direct comparison of the two places but I will say that, for size, there is nothing to top Slymons or Danny's (17th and St Clair). They both make sandwiches that most people can't (or shouldn't) eat in one meal. They are positively HUGE.

I get tuna at Danny's. Good people. Bad pastrami.
I tried pastrami many moons ago at Slyman's and haven't been back.
Brisket's pastrami is the best I've had. Really delicious. Just not in a good location for me.

Mr Brisket's corned beef taste better than Slyman's and has much better wrestling conversations. Slyman's sandwiches are huge and you pay a premium for the quantity.

All publicity is good publicity.
Remember, MB is a butcher shop first and foremost. We specialize in premium cuts of hormone/antibiotic free USDA Prime and Wagyu meats. We also have excellent CB, Pastrami and Brisket sandwiches.
Slyman's was a struggling downtown breakfast joint about 25 years ago. They decided to try making a huge CB sandwich as a way of drawing a crowd. It worked better than they could ever have imagined. Slyman's has spun off into several other restaurants and has opened a sports bar in Independence with another one soon to come pretty close to my house. They also own a pretty fair amount of parking lots in downtown. The Slyman family has proven to be shrewd when it comes to investing and building their brand.

I mentioned Mr Brisket on my friend's Facebook post and he responded that he had never heard of your fine restaurant but he said he would look into it.

Has anyone tried Zingerman's in Ann Arbor? Very good and they too make huge sandwiches.

I love Slyman's, Mister Brisket and Zingerman's. Can't imagine why anyone wouldn't. I prefer the conversation at MB.

Appreciate the compliment.
By the way, where's Zingerman's located? Heard it's in a really cool city.

Back in the late 90s a friend of my would drag me up to that state up north to watch some football. His father a retired big wig from the Hoover Company was an alum. Friend's dad really liked Zingerman's. Coffee and sweets in the mornings then back for sandwiches later in the day.
I think it was a couple blocks off of Main St on the corner of Detroit and something. Not very big but they did have a few tables.
Those were some tough times for this Ohio State fan among all that maze and blue. Great time tailgating with the same group of people in the motor home section. But boy did they bust my chops for wearing Ohio State garb to a Michigan game.
