"Is 11 the number that did it consecutively? As opposed to winning an NCAA title in 1990, World in 1994 and Olympic in 1996?"
|
No, 11 is the number of people that have done it in any order. According to themat.com, John Smith was the last person to do what Kyle just did - World, NCAA, and Olympic titles over a period of 12 months.

Congratulations Kyle Snyder on and absolutely breathtaking accomplishment. You are now, and forever will be, a legend in our sport. There is no negative or downside to what you have accomplished. It is reality. It is fact. Clearly, aborting your Olympic red-shirt year and competing for your college team hurt you zero in your quest for Olympic gold. No one can take that away from you and no one should want to. Whatever you do from this point forward, you are the best in the world at what you do. How many people can say that that? Not many, and certainly no one on this forum. Take a victory lap, bask in this incredible accomplishment and then move on to whatever is next on your list of goals. There is nothing you could do that should shock or surprise anyone. You are special.

Snyder get 250 large and still maintains his NCAA eligibility. Is there any other reason he might not be back in Columbus?"
|
With that kind of jack, there is probably no way he gets out of buying beers for college friends. Except, he probably doesn't drink beer.

With that kind of jack, does Snyder give back his scholarship so that TR can use the money elsewhere?

I really like the thought. A couple more individual titles to go along with a couple more team titles would add to his greatness.

Sounds good for everyone but Snyder. But no way should he do this in my mind. He probably gets a total or $275k gross from this (250 from Living the Dream + 25 from USOC)... but taxes will take half of that.
$140k isn't such a windfall that he should start giving away a $35-40k/year scholarship that he has more than EARNED. If his scholarship comes off the books, it will (and should) only be because he's giving up his eligibility so he can collect endorsement dollars.

I agree wholeheartedly with Brady and Ben. No way should Snyder give up what he has rightfully earned with his own hard work and dedication.

I agree, he should keep his scholarship. Not only are you talking about $40-$45k per year, you're also talking about giving up the Cost of Attendance $$ which is about $3300. I don't know if Kyle changed his residency from MD to OH but doing so wouldn't benefit him because he's not a partial scholarship student athlete.

With his skill set, and athletic drive, I can't help thinking he would make a pretty solid defensive lineman?

This $$$ goes into a trust until he turns pro, correct? Probably tax sheltered for now, but taxable once he starts using it.
