Discussion Topic: Nate to 133?
Hank Kornblut added to this discussion on March 23, 2016

During a post NCAA interview, Nate admitted he's not sure which weight he'll go next season. While he's short, there's no doubt he loves to lift and is incredibly strong. I thought one could see the cut affecting him early in the season but it didn't stop him from winning.

Obviously, the Bucks remain in limbo at 125 if Nate moves up. Their only options are a transfer, a recruit or to slim down either Rodriguez or Pletcher (probably J-Rod). My guess is there's no help coming and that Rodriguez--who had a fine redshirt season--would make a very rugged cut if Nate goes 133.

Nate at 133 probably hurts the Bucks a bit in duals. On the other hand, it's not an overwhelming weight class in terms of returning competition. C.Clark and Z.Richards are obstacles with guys like DiCamillo and Ryan Taylor the next best. I have no idea how Nate matches up against larger wrestlers but my guess is he'd be as much a title threat as he was this year at 125 (he was probably the best guy at the weight but fate smiled on Nico).

Just my pennies on the topic. Thoughts?

Allow Nate to wrestle where he wants, provided he can win the wrestle-off. You want him comfortable and clicking on all cylinders. Whichever weight he goes tOSU will be Top 3 at one of the weights and have a question mark at the other.

I watched Nate take Joe Colon down at will in the last year's senior nationals. Just can't see many 33's pushing him around.

I know its freestyle but Nate will see a lot of guys at 57kg during Olympic Trials that wrestled at 133 or higher in college so we will see how he handles that.

I thought Gilman was a tall 125 - think he moves up?

Not unless Clark's going somewhere.

I would bet Gillman would beat Clark in a wrestle off

Gilman is a better pure wrestler but Clark is very hard to beat. His constant pressure and ability to put opponents into uncomfortable situations is uncanny. Wrestling him is like playing a game of twister and he's in charge of each new position.

Two years ago but Clark beat him out for 125.

As I recall, that was more of a coaching decision.
