I'll keep this first post updated so it doesn't get buried in the thread.

Then there is an at large possibility for 8 total remaining spots (since Brazil qualified 4 spots) for Men's and Women's FS and GR TBD by Tripartite Commission. The process seems complicated and involves the highest ranking team ranking at the 2015 World Championships without a qualifier.

Logan is up 8-4 with about 1:30 to go in the match and ends getting cradled and pinned.

Matt, what a shame, he had wrestled great all the way through the tournament, only to lose the gold in the last part of the match. I'm sure they will look at that TD situation and correct the move that led to the cradle. It was a good counter by the Ukrainian wrestler and a legit pin, but Logan dominated to that point. Good experience for Logan with international competition.

The Medved tournament starts tomorrow and the draws are out for the 13 Americans in Belarus warming up for trials. Logan and Kyle will again be getting international experience. Kyle especially has a brutal road to Medved gold.

From takedownwrestle.com:
Talk about a tough road. After losing to 2013 world bronze medalist Anzor Boltukaev at the Yarygin, the American faithful is eager to see how Kyle Snyder can bounce back. Despite his first senior level loss, Snyder still won bronze and showed up in Minsk just as he promised he would. He starts off with Magomed Ibragimov of Uzbekistan, formerly a multiple time placewinner at Russian Nationals before transferring countries. His likely next round opponent is a former World University champion in Yuri Belonovski. From there, a potential match-up with six-time world/Olympic champion Khadzhimurat Gatsalov awaits. Should he make it through all that, he may have a rematch with the opponent he beat to become the youngest world champ in American history in Abdusalam Gadisov; the 2014 world champ is coming off meniscus surgery.
On the opposite side of the bracket is Kyven Gadson, making his overseas debut. Gadson wrestled at the Bill Farrell and US Nationals at the end of last year. The 2015 NCAA champ is hoping to make his way through the top half to see Snyder in the finals. The last time those two met was the NCAA finals in March, when Gadson pinned Snyder, but that was in folkstyle. Kyven opens with 2015 world fifth placer Odikadze of Georgia.

Logan lost to the reigning world champ 10-8 and was winning 6-4 after one.

Am I the only one who would rather see anyone else but Metcalf represent the US at this weight in the Olympics?

Snyder lost 5-2 to a Russian but not sure if it was Gatsalov. According to twitter he was controlling the match but lost on 2 whizzer kicks as he was finishing the TD.

Live feed for Medved finals coming up.

57: Arabidze RUS vs Atri IRI

65: Ramonov RUS vs Chamizo ITL

74: Tsabolov RUS vs Yazdani IRI

97: Gatsalov RUS vs Yankouski BLR

Snyder lost to Gatsalov and Stieber lost to current World Champ Frank Chamizo. Both losses were really tough matches against the top competition in the world. Stieber showed me he's right there. He might be a bit over aggressive but that's just who he is. He's figuring out how to take these guys down though, instead of adjusting his style to sit on a lead.
Gatsalov went on to beat Gadisov in the semis to pull Snyder back in.

Homer Alert: I'll bet if you polled every USA Wrestling coach they'd tell you privately Stieber would make the best Olympic representative at 65K. He scores on everyone which gives him a shot to win. Rest of our guys don't.

RE: choosing the Olympians. I wish they had a point system where you scored depending on the international opponent and tournament you competed in. More Americans need to wrestle opponents outside the USA.

With some great wrestling by Logan in these tournaments in Russia & Ukraine, I'm going to be interested to see if he wrestles better against his American opponents, especially Oliver. He seems to be getting better at FS with his matches against seasoned international wrestlers.

Logan is 4th on the US ladder behind Metcalf, Oliver and Kennedy. He has his work cut out for him.

Both finalist qualified their weights for their countries to wrestle in the olympics today at the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier. Tony Ramos earned silver today and qualified the US at 57kg and Tervel earned gold and qualified 125kg. Unfortunately Metcalf and Jake Herbert were not able to get a gold or silver to qualify 65kg and 86kg and the US will have 2 more chances before the US trials to see if we even get the right to send someone at those weights to Brazil. Question is, should Metcalf and Herbert represent the US in those open international tournaments?
The first tournament will be in Mongolia on April 22 and only the representatives from countries that have not qualified their weight can send wrestlers. Top 3 will qualify the weight.
The last chance will be in Turkey on May 6. Only top 2 will qualify the weight here.

Metcalf is falling apart emotionally from what people are saying on themat.

Logan is your best bet to qualify the weight.

I don't think the US will qualify at 86. Best bet would be Taylor as he's only a bit small. Dake may beat Americans but he's not likely to beat large international guys. He's just way too undersized.

Jason Nolf could become the American wrestler to take out Jordan Burroughs in a few years.
