Discussion Topic: Ohio State's 149 lbs

Let's be honest--it's a mess. Hunter's back but appears to be severely limited by his surgeries (and he may have been hurt in the dual w/Indiana) Cody Burcher has disappeared from sight. Mike Hozan is tiny. If you're Ohio State, what do you do for the last two BT duals--PSU and Wiscy--plus National Duals?

1) Hunter--if healthy--goes. End of discussion.
2) Burcher gets another opportunity assuming he's eligible and healthy.
3) Move Micah to this weight and put Hayes in the lineup. While I think this would be a very shortsighted move, it is similar to what the Bucks did to strengthen to 165 and 174 spots...just later in the season.
4) Disguise Logan and have him take the mat under the name of someone else.
5) Other ideas?

Hank, right or wrong, I have a feeling that many if not most of tOSU staff feel that Hunter has earned the benefit of the doubt. We will see how it plays out. I truly hope his healing and performance curve are steep. I woulf love to see him end his career with another All Amrrican finish.

I would insert between #2 and #3: Moving Ryan to 49 and Kresivic at 57.

I think this is the best option if Burcher is a no-go. Burcher showed he can battle earlier this season and earned the spot, should Hunter not be able to perform.

Hadn't thought of it. Good idea in theory. But the rules for changing weight classes are very strict. Unless Jake Ryan has been working on this cut for about a month--and weighing in well below 157--I'm not sure he can do it.

Could this be the reason we haven't seen Jake wrestle the last couple of weeks? Could he be working on the cut?

Do they certify at a weight early in the season?

Hunter will return.

We just need to give him more time. He's not ready. Not re-injured, just needs more time.

Come on guys, nothing is going to change that much from here. The line-up in the line-up. If Jake Ryan could make 149 and wrestle like he is at 157, he would've started the season there (and he'd be an All American candidate at that weight). No one's going to get significantly better. Others have listed the names...Kish, Pucillo, Nickerson, McDonough, many others. Unfortunately, sometimes the sport takes its toll on the body. As the above names show, it doesn't matter how good a wrestler you are or how much heart you have. If your body won't let you compete like you used to, there's nothing that's going to change that (including an extra month of practice, matches, rest, conditioning).

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is what red-shirts were burned for?...to move up (maybe???) a couple of spaces on the NCAA leader board and not come close to the title? It was a bad call.

To my knowledge, NCAAs has not happened yet.

So, are you saying that you think either Stieber is going to make massive improvements in his wrestling, or the lien-up is going to get shuffled around?

Or are you saying my assertion that they'll only move up a couple spots at NCAAs is not accurate?

I am saying they'll only move up a couple could possibly be inaccurate. Crazy things happen.
