I can hardly wait to see the comments. They make much more sense when you have to use your real name.

I didn't see the match. Here's what I do know. They were teammates last year at Dayton Christian and familiar with each other's styles. So it was difficult to score.

My understanding is Lacure was given a 2 pt reversal in OT that was suspect. Sometimes officials have tough matches and make a controversial call. Obviously, it's best when the action decides the outcome.

That bizarre, to say the least. A lot of stuff near the edge of the mat stopped early, in my opinion.

Bizarre! Some of the worst officiating I've seen to date. I guess the head official was equally bad to both wrestlers

Lots of things happened in this match.
Since Fred Feeney was on the side of the mat for this (you even see him helping clear the mats during the OT's), I know he has first hand knowledge of how it went.

I was struggling to process the confluence of situations that arose in that match and put them in some type of rational context until I found this old clip of a like and similar event, which helped clarify:

I was matside for the entire tournament. First thing I would like to see is high school official learn to extend their arm and give coaches warnings as they do in college for entering the circle. The coaches are out of hand. One actually went on the mat and stopped a near fall situation earlier in the semis.

The 145 final match was officiated poorly and I know both of them.

I've personally never seen a high school wrestler direct their coach to challenge a call.

Another big problem is the reluctance of high school to pick up on college rules. Why are out-of-bounds calls so different in high school? Wouldn't it make more sense to extend the mat so guys can finish moves?

I'll guess it's a space/safety issue. I have no real answer but that is my guess.

For most gyms, getting four mats in them is a stretch. So they get butted side by side, near a set of bleachers and/or wall. In order to keep the action from spilling into those objects, the circle is set as a "go no further" zone.

Again though - nothing concrete with that answer. Just my musings.

No doubt -- difficulty in HS is that they put mats so close together that if they did us college OB rules, they'd be way into the next-door circle.

It isn't just that you don't see it, it is that they do not penalize in accordance with the rule book. I was stunned when I saw the DC coach in the center circle during the match. That is NOT the procedure and an USC call would have reminded him of that. Personally I was disappointed the call was not made.
I do understand his point to be made BUT the issue is to be addressed at the table only, not in the center of the mat.

I've seen worse calls made than in this match. Easily worse.

The officials clearly got flustered and succumbed to the pressure (of the match, from the coaches, etc.).

They weren't the only ones that got flustered and succumbed to the craziness of the match. IMHO, Carr and the Perry coaches did as well. 4.7 seconds, on a re-start with NO STALL WARNINGS, you optional start with hands low on back, shove away, take three steps back, listen to the whistle, walk back to the center, get hand raised.

I was watching the match as it occurred and I did not see that when it happened. However when I watched the match from the camera that was on the side opposite the scoring table, it was very clear.
That discussion should have likely never taken place and, given that it was "judgment" as to whether the move scored or not, the coach should have been penalized for misconduct.
If the official saw the wrestler indicate what he wanted, IMO it would have been a USC call on the coach for even going to dispute the call.
BTW, I doubt that the official saw what the wrestler signaled.
