Jose Rodriguez takes on Cam Kelly in the finals at 133 frosh/soph division. Have these two met before?

Ke-Shawn Hayes has not yet been challenged at 141 in the same division. He's in the finals against a wrestler who beat Stickley 6-5.

Austin Reese in the finals at 165. Seth Williams will go for 3rd. JP Newton lost a tight cons bout to Jairod James (Kent).

Semifinal - Mike Ottinger (Central Michigan) won by decision over Myles Martin (Ohio State) (Dec 4-3)

Myles had the 1st takedown and was up 3-2 with seconds left and it appears on track that he lost due to a last second takedown. So close to a top level wrestler.

Quote from Matt Hall's post:

"Semifinal - Mike Ottinger (Central Michigan) won by decision over Myles Martin (Ohio State) (Dec 4-3)

Ottinger ranked #9 on Flo.

The tOSU weight class/NCAA scoring consideration plot thickens...(or, in this case, thins).

Based on the MSU Open results I think Myles Martin should strongly be considered for 174. I think Mark Martin should also remain the 197 and Tav is clear favorite at 285.
The only way I think it makes sense for Kollin Moore to start now is if Bo goes 165 this year and next year. Myles goes 174 this year and next. Mark Martin goes 184 next year.

OU thoughts:

Walters and Romanchik didn't wrestle - not sure on injury status but assuming it's minor.

Wellington wins 97. Shaun Scott from NIU is no slouch, he was a NQ last year and Flo has him ranked 14th I think.

Cam Kelly wins 33 in FR/SO. Very small sample size but seems to be on the right track, was undefeated last weekend too.

Reese and Webb win their weight classes. These two, along with Laney and Kelly, are starters. I debate this with myself every year: why not let starters wrestle in the open division? I see the merit in both concepts - facing stiffer comp would help but it also is good to get some wins and build confidence.

Laney looks to me like he could been a real find for OU. He loses to the highly regarded Assad 8-7, and I bet few even noticed when he committed to OU. Great start to his career.

Chino's 3rd with the close loss to levallee is was fine - nothing great but nothing bad.

Forrrider placed 5th. He was 6-1. Dude needs an ice pack or two I'm sure.

Great learning experience for Myles up 3-2 with around 25/30 seconds to go with no stalls At that point you have to play defense Kid Ottinger didn't do much and took no shots until the last one but he had a great game plan to slow Myles up However with that said I believe he got better today which is always the goal

Well stated....I personally thought Myles was a little tentative. Ottingers physicality had a lot to do with that. Having said that. ...I don't think Myles loses to that guy again. Btw, Myles takedown was slick. I'm not certain I've seen many guys hit a duck while being front headlocked and inside tripped!

I agree but I also thought Myles should of used his speed more but a little easier said then done after a long day I guess and the guy also kept pulling his head gear down and was on his head too much as well which probably frustrated him some Nevertheless a great match to learn from and to make adjustments when you know some big meat head wrestlers will wrestle him that way. I know Myles and he will make the adjustments

285 is not like any other weight. Tav got pinned early last season by a wrestler from Tiffin (a nice up and coming D2 program).

Personally I would keep My Martin in redshirt. Bo Jordan just utterly destroyed a pretty good Fox Baldwin. He is clearly a strong title contender at 174 or 165 but there is no Alex Dieringer at the higher weight.

Bucks have a fine team with two bonafide title contenders in Bo and Nate. Micah might prove to be one as well. Hunter is the wild card but it's hard to imagine him coming back and instantly assuming championship form. let's just hope he's healthy enough to go and compete at a high level.

Obviously there are other guys in the lineup with scoring potential. I'd ride that group and let it play out while keeping my young guys--Hayes, Moore and My Mart--on ice.

There is no reason to redshirt Mark Martin from a strategic point of view. I don't know why they would do it but there are likely issues of which I'm unaware.

Hank I've made my opinion known for quite sometime and that's I believe Myles should redshirt and I also agree on the others Yes he may do well but I believe after a year his confidence will be much higher as well as his mental preparation to being a Big 10 wrestler A year from now that same kid is not even on the same mat with Myles trust me We have enough pieces to the puzzle to compete this year without burning their year It did wonders for Bo and Nate I believe
