Discussion Topic: Micah to 141

Saw that Dano confirmed it.

I understand the desire to put the best possible lineup on the mat. And Micah to 141...with My Martin to 174, Mark Martin to 184 and Ken Courts to 197 (or vice versa on the last two...both are pretty huge from what I've heard) makes for a nice lineup without any big weaknesses. But huge weigh cuts often have a way of backfiring.

I hope this goes well but I'm skeptical #whatelseisnew

Thoughts on Jake Ryan 157# since Micah Jordan plans to wrestle 141?

Who did Micah lose to last year? He had a great red shirt season and lost 3 times..

Dano confirmed consideration, "maybe" 141

Jake to 157...thoughts - he seems short for the weight class. Unless he is amazingly strong and adept at getting out on bottom, his opponents' length could cause fits.

From the outside looking in, I still like this:

141: Hunter Stiebler
149: Jake Ryan
157: Micah Jordan

But again, I'm not in the room daily (that they know of! Mwahh ah ahhhhhh!).

2 of the 3 losses were forfeits, so he really only got defeated on the mat one time. Listed below are the losses.

12/7/2015: Laike Gardner (Lehigh) 5-3 Loss
12/7/2015: Preston McCalmon (ASU) M-FOR
12/13/2015: Jake Danishek (IN) FOR

The loss to Gardner was the one where they banged heads and Micah was wobbly after the hit. Probably should not have continued the match, but did and then withdrew from the tourney.

Agree if it's feasible for Hunter to do it. Otherwise, I think Bucks should just roll with whoever at 141 #redshirthayes

That's exactly how I thought it was going to shake out too.

I like the idea of Micah going to 141. That weight class lost a lot at the top to graduation from last year. If Micah can successfully get down to weight and maintain it, he could have a very good year there.

So, if MicahJo goes down to 141, the lineup looks like this:
125: NATO
133: JDJ
141: MIC-JO
149: HUNTER
155: JAKE
165: BOJO
174: MY-MAR
184: KC
197: MAR-MAR
285: TAV or HAINES

I like that lineup. First question is health for Hunter. Tavenello and Haines. - If Hunter is healthy, he has to be a favorite in his class? Tav was Rd of 12 as a RS-FR when he was last healthy. Don't know what to expect out of Haines?

From what I have read, I expect Myles Martin to transition well to college. But, time will tell.

The biggest unknown there is how will Jake develop. I hope him the best. His 19-5 RS year in the open tourneys show that he has some promise, but it is a big step from there to the top of the NCAAs. He certainly has two big factors going for him: 1) He gets to practice on a daily basis with LOGAN/JAGGERS/HUNTER/MICAH/BOJO, STEEL SHARPENS STEEL!, and 2) I heard his dad knows a little bit about wrestling, maybe he can teach him something? - If he doesn't win, maybe dad will take his car keys from him!

Micah wrestled at 157 last year correct? that seems like a big cut to me, I'm all for doing what's best for the team, but I'd like to see the best Micah we can, I'm not sure a sucked down version of him would be beneficial, then again, I'm not Tom Ryan

No way you can call Hunter the favorite at 149. Not with Tsirtsis and Rutherford there.

I understand your point. I have a lot of respect for what T-shirt and Zain have accomplished. - On the other hand, it's been a long time since we have seen a healthy Hunter. As a RS-SR I expect Hunter to be very focused if his body holds out for him. - I am taking nothing from the other two, I just have a lot of respect for Hunter!

Micah wrestled 149 also last year.

I saw a recent picture of Hunter standing next to his brother Logan. Boy has he gotten tall. I think he is still growing! Based on how he looks now, making 141 seems like an almost impossible task (admittedly, J Jaggers was able to make it and he appears to be just as tall as Hunter but the cut must have been very tough for Jaggers).

I know Tom Ryan is a very good coach but one criticism I would level at him is that sometimes he let's some of his wrestlers cut too much to fill holes in the team lineup.
