Unreal. I'm still in awe.

Last night I received a dozen or so text messages about Kyle's win. (Two came from people I didn't even know knew much about the sport; mainly that I was loosely involved with the sport somehow.) My first response to all of them was unreal.

I just cannot believe what he accomplished! Awesome stuff!

What an awesome match.

Here's the post-tournament press conference:

So, what's greater? Winning a World Title at 19 or 4 x NCAA Champ?

Both amazing.

Winning that World Title at 19 making him the US's youngest Gold Medalist ever.

Yeah!- But Kyle will never be a 4-time NCAA Champ.

Logan and Dake are both 4-timers, but who knows if they will ever be World Free Champs

Both are 'extreme' accomplishments with slightly different skill sets and rules. - Dominance in one discipline doesn't necessarily imply domination on the other stage!

However, I do like Kyle's chances to win some NCAA titles 'if and when' he comes back to collegiate wrestling.

QUESTION: Since he has risen to the top echelon of freestyle wrestling, is there real motivation to return to collegiate wrestling? - I would imagine it would depend on the individual and what their real goals in life are?

College wrestling needs significant rules changes IMO. What's more fun to watch? Snyder, Green and Burroughs in Free or Folk?

I hope Snyder comes back but it does nothing for him internationally and that's more important.

Hank, this week made me a believer. I have been to 10 Bigs and 8 ncaas and I have never seen such exciting wrestling from start to finish. Kyle's match and the Chamizo's title match were truly two of the most thrilling matches I have seen. Comebacks with throws were not uncommon so a match seemed never to be out of reach. The atmosphere in the arena was awesome. Would love to see college wrestling get there. I still feel an ability to escape a hold and being able to control an opponent should be rewarded but I think that could be worked out. Also why can't women's freestyle become a college sport? Seems to me it would solve a lot of problems with Title IX for wrestling.

I forgot to mention the refs really kept the wrestlers wrestling.

I would think getting a degree is more important. He could get it later, but wrestling folk isn't Kyle's only motivation for returning to college.
