I think there has been a college rule in place for several years that allows for the use of 2 piece spandex or lycra "singlets". I've never seen them used.

Am I correct about the rule? Are there any colleges using them? If not, why not?

I'm not sure they are allowed at NCAA sanctioned events.

I could be wrong on that though. I have seen them used with Flo and NWCA events.

FWIW: I am fan of them. (I am not of the opinion, as some are, that it is the missing link to saving the sport.)

This is from the "NCAA Wrestling 2013-14 and 2014-15 Rules and Interpretations"

1.12.1.2 Spandex/lycra. The shirt shall be a T-shirt style form-fitted,
sleeveless or short-sleeved and shall not cover or extend beyond the
elbow. In addition, the length of the shirt must be longer than the torso to
prevent the shirt from becoming untucked. The shirt shall remain tucked
into the shorts at all times during competition. The shorts shall be formfitting
with a minimum 4-inch inseam and shall not extend beyond the top
of the knees.

Unless I'm missing something, they're legal.

I have to assume that coaches think a true singlet gives a competitive advantage, but it surprises me that someone doesn't try them out just to be different.

Hey! I stand corrected. Great for the NCAA. Allow schools to choose.

I think I recall Missouri - or a wrestler on the Missouri team in an event - wearing the "doublet" as it was called.
