Discussion Topic: AWN Ranks Bucks Recruit Class #4
Hank Kornblut added to this discussion on August 31, 2015
My latest AWN has Ohio State's class of Myles Martin, Ke-Shawn Hayes, Kollin Moore, Jose Rodriguez and Troy Caldwell ranked as 4th best in the nation.
When you look at this class, it's got five guys with the potential to end up as long term starters. We know a lot about the first four mentioned but the intriguing* prospect is Troy Caldwell.
Caldwell won two state titles for Jonathan Alder over the last two seasons at 220 and 285 respectively. But I can't find a single video of him competing nor can I find his height listed anywhere. The Bucks have gone a long time without a top flight contender at 285. I like Tav but he's a bit undersized. Haines remains an unknown in spite of his outstanding high school career. Typically, when the staff is enamored of a wrestler's potential/work ethic, word leaks out. I have not heard anything about Haines. It sure would be nice if someone out of the current prospects emerged as a really fine potential big man.
Does Caldwell have the talent to develop into "the guy?"
*all the prospects are "intriguing." didn't intend disrespect. Caldwell is the least known of the bunch so I was trying to point out that makes him a wild card to schmucks like me.

Hank, I'm thinking after this year Mr. Snyder is going to be our 285. Seems a year at his international weight might make it real hard to go back to 197 IMO.

Kollin Moore is going to be good. Really. Really. Good.

Caldwell looked like a kid that could have cut to 220 last year if he had to but I don't think the need was there. He's a tough kid, obviously, but he will be small at 285.

Excluding his incredible talent, wouldn't Snyder be small for heavy?

It has been mentioned elsewhere that Snyder will likely end up as a heavyweight.
If you're looking for successful undersized heavyweights, you can look in the history books under Rowlands, Tommy.

I'm not saying Snyder couldn't be successful at heavyweight, but he has a very different frame than Tommy. These stalkier frames often have a tougher time adjusting. Snyder could be different, though.

Snyder will not do much riding as a 285 but his pace and speed will wear guys into the ground. He'll weigh about 240 and win a lot of 5-2 matches. J.D. Bergman was not a big 285 and he was dominant over most of the field.
