I recorded a podcast for a local radio station and the topic was Ohio State football, mostly focusing on recruiting. If you are interested, listen here:

That podcast was great.

I am an OSU recruiting junkie, so I got my fix for today!

Jason is a budding media superstar! - We can always say we knew him when he was just another wrestling nut!

Jason,
let's cut to the chase, give me 5 or 10 hilites u discussed, bullets ---

i been listening to buckeyes on radio since 1957 when i lived in Germany, on Armed Forces Network. Woody Hayes vs his hated rival coach Forest Evashevski of the then powerful Iowa Hawkeyes.

as it came across airways a young kid thought wow this is really great, then i went to ohio st and followed them close ever since.

never thought in same year i'd see em win both football & wrestling titles, greatest year ever imo.

Quote from Hank Kornblut's post:

"Woody always hated someone."

yes was his nature, Bo's too, both combative personalities. Evashevski btw played O-line for your alma mater when Tom Harmon ran the ball for U of M. That probably stoked Woody's fire. Evashevski and Woody came to blows at Big Ten coaches meeting one year in the 50s.

The only person Bo hated was Bill Frieder. Frieder had secretly agreed to leave UM to coach at ASU but wasn't going to announce it til the NCAA B-Ball tourney was over. Bo was AD and found out. Booted Frieder on the spot famously announcing that only a "Michigan Man would coach Michigan".

Steve Fisher stepped in and UM won the NCAA tourney.

yes i recall Frieder incident, worked out well for U of M, won title.

Bo also hated Big Ten commish Wayne Duke, for alledgedly influencing the vote that sent Ohio St to Rose Bowl, when they had been tied by UM 10-10 in 1974, both otherwise unbeaten-- actually U of M outplayed ohio st but their QB got inj badly.

did u see TIE the documentary on Big Ten network?

his players said Bo hated every AD who he thought voted against U of M, it was secret vote.

Woody and Schembechler were cut from the same cloth. They treated everyone fairly, loved to compete, and dramatically advanced the cause of African Americans in college football, if not all sports. The world is a better place for having Woody an Bo, who got his shot from working with WWH.

There was no excuse for the punch on Bauman.

Frieder was a snake and Fisher turned a blind eye to significant recruiting violations.

For those recruiting junkies, check out Eleven Warroirs. I will of course listen to the podcast because it is Jason, a great contributor here.

Bob:

Some highlights:

Mr. Birmingham predicted the move of Braxton Miller to WR;
Mr. Birmingham predicted 3(or more) commitments for this past weekend;
General discussion of some of the current commits, including that Austin Mack was the #1 WR in the country on the Ohio State board; and,
General discussing of Friday Night Lights recruiting event.

I am scheduled to record again this Wednesday. Not sure what the topic will be, I am simply a sidekick.

On Wednesday, August 12th, we will have Bill Greene from Scout.com on to discuss Ohio State recruiting, the start of camp and a preview of the season.

Thanks to all who listened!
