When Roger "the Hammer" Chandler officially takes over, they should have a tri meet at St Eds with the Bucks, Jim Heffernan's Illini and Chandler's Spartans.

It is interesting to see that there is no Minnesota or Iowa on the schedule this year. Traditionally, those are the two toughest teams in the Big Ten before Penn State's emergence that last 4-5 years.

Realistically, the Penn State match could be an opportunity for OSU to go undefeated in the Big Ten! - I know, there are a lot of other teams in this league that can jump up and bite you. But really, PSU, IA, Minny, and OSU have to be condisered the prime candidates to win the Big Ten Dual Season.

Also, no Rutgers or Maryland this year.

Pat: You're forgetting Michigan. Five returning AA's plus Abounader, Logan and/or Taylor Massa, Davonte Mahomes and Alec Pantaleo. They're loaded.

Yeh! I was thinking about Michigan and Nebraska and Wisconsin and Illinois when I wrote the original. If you come into any of those meets and are not mentally and physically ready, and totally healthy, they are going to find a way to get you.

I'm not totally overlooking Michigan, it is just that traditionally Minny and Iowa are the 'Big Dogs', and those are two huge absences from the lineup.

How do you think we will line-up against MI, Hank?

125: Nato vs Youtsey (adv. Ohio State)
133: JDJ vs Bruno (toss up)
141: Fisher or Hall vs ? Hunter? Hayes? don't know
149: Pantaleo v Hunter or J. Ryan (Pantaleo would be favored over Ryan and an underdog vs a healthy Hunter)
157: Murphy v MoJo (slight adv. to returning AA Murphy)
165: BoJo vs Logan Massa (adv. Buckeyes)
174: Ryan Harris v Mahomes or Taylor Massa (adv. Michigan)
184: Abounader v Courts/Martin (adv. Abounader based on history)
197: Huntley vs Courts/Martin/Moore (adv Michigan)
285: Coon v Tav/Haines (adv Michigan)

Basing my predictions off of possible lineups.

Yes, I see what you mean! This could be a pretty close match.

I generally agree with you on most of these, but predict it slightly different, at this point.

OSU: 125 Tomasello/141 Hunter (assuming he is at this weight and healthy)/165 BoJo/184 Courts/197 Mark Martin ( I may be reaching a bit here, but I am predicting MM to go up two weights and wrestle better, much like Heflin did two years ago. Mark is very athletic, and I think his shot would translate well at 197 if he has the strength to finish it against the bigger boys.)

UM: 149 Pantaleo/174 MaHomes/285 Coon

TOSS-UP: 133/157

184 & 197 could very easily be considered toss-ups also.

I am really not sure that a returning AA Murphy has any advantage over RS-FR MoJo. - I expect Micah to AA this year! Is that a Bold Statement? - Maybe/maybe not! - It could be one of those situations where Murphy wins early at the duals, and Micah learns from the experience and comes back to beat him at the BIG10's and nationals.

Abounader and Courts have gone back and forth. - I am hoping the AA gives Kenny a big confidence booster going into this season. - Kenny is like the 'little engine who could'. - It used to be 'I think I can, I think I can', in his senior season after a 5th place finish, it's 'I KNOW I CAN, I KNOW I CAN! - That should make all the difference.

JDJ and Bruno have battled back and forth several times also. It all boils down to who wants it more, and who is healthy, on a given day!

Regardless of how you look at these matchups, you are right, this will be a dog-fight!

well said re Courts, he thinks his time has now arrived at 184.

Hunter to 141 --Bo staying at 165 -- Myles Martin the true frosh making a move at 174, yes u read it right -- with Mark Martin probably RS, that leaves stud true frosh Kollin Moore at 197, will be tough learning year for him but he is what ohio st has for 197.

It's very early to predict lineups. I'm just pointing out that Michigan is loaded. They have a shot to be a top three squad. Buckeyes have the horses to surprise but on paper they've got two studs--BoJo and NaTo--and a bunch of maybes led by Courts and JDJ--with Hunter as a wildcard.

Imagine Michigan's potential if Ben Whitford had made it to campus. Whitford was an absolute stud in high school — the No. 1 or 2 recruit in his class, if I recall — but had academic issues. If eligible, he'd have a spot in the middle of the Wolverines' line up.

Joe McFarland's program has rebounded nicely from some lean years, and thankfully it is not coming at the expense of Ohio State. Outside of Abounader, McFarland has had a difficult time replicating his early recruiting success when he landed Ohio's top guys like Moos, Bertin, Hrovat and Kulczycki. Basically, the St. Ed's guys.

Tom Ryan has made Joe McFarland's job a lot tougher.

The Wolverines could very easily beat OSU in a dual this year, but the Bucks will finish higher at the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments. In the postseason, it's all about finalists, and outside of Coon, Michigan is not elite at any one weight. Okay, one could argue Big Ten champ Abounader is elite, but in two tries he has yet to garner more than one win at nationals.

Youtsey, Bruno and Murphy are fringe-type guys who wrestled well in St. Louis to be All-Americans. Can they do it again? If yes, Michigan will be top-five come March.
