Pretty good tournament for OU. Excited to see some of the newcomers have success, albeit in the FR/SO division.

33 - Squire placed 8th, but nothing of real substance. Would love to see him take the next step this season.

41 - Forrider wrestler FR/SO and placed 4th. I assume he will start this season so was surprised to see him not in the Open Division. I have high hopes for him this season.

49 - Claxton wins the title, pretty workmanlike. Beat Nelson in the finals who was a NQ two years ago for Purdue.

57 - Chino places 4th, loses to #16 Schiedel (St. Eds, i think) in 2OT for 3rd.

57 - Romanchik places 5th, only loss was to Demas. Beat Languis in OT for 5th.

65 - Hightower placed 3rd, beat number 15 Walsh from Navy for 3rd.

74 - Walters wins.

84 - not sure who the starter will be.

97 - Wellington wrestled well, beat #20 Rands soundly. I think we learned Snyder is for real.

From the youngsters:

33 - Josh Parrett was second, losing 11-7 to Cortez, a top 10 recruit last season. Great debut.

49 - Cullen Cummings was 2nd, I think he could slide in next season when Claxton graduates. He was majored in the finals, however.

65 - Reese with a great tournament, beat top-100 recruit in the finals 3-0. Big upside.

74 - Sizemore was 4-2 for 8th.

84 - Garrett Conner, who I think transferred from Rutgers, was also 4-2 for 8th.

97 - Gabe Dzuro was 4-2 and finished 6th.

285 Webb was in for 7/8 and Parker was 3rd.

Of note, one of the true freshmen will have to start at heavy. While I believe there is upside there, probably will be a weakness this season.

All told I count 17 placers and 3 champs.

OU had a very nice tournament. Wellington and Walters are a terrific 1-2 punch and Hightower is a bear on top. Everyone was paying so much attention to tOSU that OU's solid tourney went unnoticed.

Excellent recap. Thanks for the info.

I agree with you that if Forrider is to be the starter then having him in the open division may have been the route to go. But I see no harm in using this first tournament, and the FR/SO division as a way to ring in the season for him.

Excellent stuff.

Forgot about Claxton winning at 149. I love this kid.

OU has a very interesting team. The have a sluggers chance to finish top 12 at NCAA's with Walters, Wellington and Claxton. Those three have all demonstrated they have the skill set to do very well.

I think my bookie has the Bobcats at O/U=6.5 for National Qualifiers and O/U=2.5 for AAs. Maybe it's 3 for AAs.

Michael isn't a fan of ANY Ohio teams, as noted time and time and time again.

Not at all, I like Ohio University. I used to love watching Eric Kimble when he was their 134-pounder back in the day. I just think they're likely to "only" have two All Americans this season. Honestly, I think OU and Kent (but more so OU) are similar to tOSU in that they are a wealth of untapped potential. There's no reason OU can't be Edinboro.

Hightower had a good tournament. Watched his semi vs Massa and he made himself quite a pest in that one. He is very good on top and riding out Massa for a period is a considerable accomplishment.

Aside--CSU had a wrestler when Jack Effner first arrived who wasn't much on his feet but sticky on top and unorthodox with his legs. He was fun to watch. Think he beat Nemeth in OT at Woodling Gym. Can anyone remember this wrestler's name?

M-Rod: I think Kent is close to Edinboro but not there yet. As for OU, they're looking better. I'd like to think both programs will continue to improve.
