@USAWrestling: Escobedo downs McKnight 8-1 in 57 free quarters: Escobedo looking good after injuring his ankle at the U.S. Open
I'm pretty sure he'll fave Ramos next in the semis.

Ramos over Escobedo, 2-0. Perhaps an injury since he injury defaulted out of his match with McDonough afterwards?

Some new blood coming through the ranks at 57K is a good thing for the US. Ramos, Garrett, and Megaludis are all strong candidates for the future of the weight.
Ramos wrestled very smart, very similar to his NCAA tournament. Very defensive.

His "win" over Megaludis showed a major flaw, IMHO, in the current freestyle rules. This "almost takedown" rules just blows.
I do think that he has a great chance of doing very well at the World tournament -- he is tough to score on.

You are too kind on the "almost takedown" rule. Most ridiculous thing I've heard of since the follow your man system, or even placing 8 in three divisions in Ohio high school competition.

Awww, you think having 42 state champions and 336 state placers PER YEAR makes the terms lose their significance?

I also think the age-old slip-throw rule and the current "win by criteria" things are ludicrous, but the rules are better than they were a year or so ago.

Great match at 65 kg.
Nothing sucks the excitement out of a wrestling broadcast like women's matches every other match...

Expanded mind or not. Ben's right. The quality of action isn't the same.
Some women's sports are good for spectating, like tennis, or volleyball, but wrestling just isn't one of them. People can seek out their competitions all they want, but it seems odd to intersperse it in the middle of a men's tournament. Sort of like going to an NBA game and getting a WNBA game for free every other quarter. It's an interesting gesture, but I'm not sure it helps. Let's have all the men compete in one day, then all the women the next. Everyone is happy.

I was at the 2012 Olympic Trials and I'll say this - the women's lighter weights had my attention due to solid action. The only reason I thought it was hard to follow was because I had no background story line (aka I didn't follow women's FS enough to know the match ups. But that would be my issue, not theirs.
The upper weights...that's a different story.

Chris/Ben: I get the point but women's wrestling is vital to the survival of the sport and needs its male audience to pay attention. Not to mention that I've seen plenty of great women's matches that I'd never have watched if I didn't have it foisted upon me.
Just trying to look out for the sport's best interests.
