Discussion Topic: Talk me out of this NOW!
Pat Costilow added to this discussion on April 14, 2014

Huh, I didn't know that. It does say that they consider "Made in the USA" to be 70% domestic value. I assume that is a cost accounting function of theirs that is based in dollars of cost added. This can be deceiving based on the great disparity in labor prices. The shoes could be 70% assembled in terms of process overseas, but 70% of the cost is incurred domestically, qualifying them for New Balance's benchmark. We don't know. Either way, good for them. I never knew this, but now I feel good that my current pair of tennis shoes and cleats are both New Balance just by coincidence.

...and there I got with the accounting again. I do it just to keep Bob P on the edge of his seat.

This explains a bit of the ambiguity.

Mark...While that does sound bad, it really doesn't come close to child labor or sweat shops or shotty environmental practices or hiding your money off shore to avoid paying the taxes that give your country infrastructure and social programs.

Again, if I did my research I bet I wouldn't buy much.

That wasn't me throwing love at them. That was me explaining that the term "Made in the USA" isn't to be taken at face value 100%. It is laden with legalese and accounting justifications (which any accountant will tell you is subject to a lot of interpretation).

Pick a date in May (after the 7th) and I'll make it happen.

You have:

Mon. 5/12 through Friday 5/16
Mon. 5/19 through Friday 5/23
Tues. 5/27 through Friday 5/30 (Monday is Memorial Day. No can do.)

You tell me when.

May 8th is out of the question now. (Not that it was ever really in the equation, according to the dates posted above.)
