Discussion Topic: Wrestling on bottom in the OT ride out portion

Nothing earth shattering here, but I just want to state that you can almost not hit a stand up of any form. If you do you immediately expose your legs/ankles to be grabbed and wasting 10 seconds.

The example for escaping in OT are Tsirtsis and Perry, who both immediately went into the 'crowd' (as i know it) position, keeping their ankles as far away from the competitor as possible.

The other rule that must be established, which Graff didn't adhere to, is no funk. When you're on you're feet, stay on your feet.

Anyway, it's amazing how many matches come down to this sequence.

What I found amazing about the Graff match was when ESPN interviewed Coach Davis while the match was going on, he stated that Graff must stay basic, come to his feet, and work to cut away for the escape - stay away from the funk rolls.

And he did. ...for the duration of regulation. Then the tiebreakers came and he resorted to his habits (habits Barry Davis had continually coaches against) and what happened???

If at first you don't succeed, try doing what your coach said to do the first time.

In Ramos's post championship interview he said "and that's why you don't try rolls. Stick with basic wrestling."
I can't say I disagree with him there.
