Are we overlooking what Kilgore accomplished? I just watched the video from the KSU wrestling website and then watched the interviews with Dustin and Coach Andrassy on youtube.
It's really remarkable to think about what Kent has accomplished over the last three seasons. 5 AA's, a MAC title and a National Champion. And Kent is now perenially ranked top 20. Thank you Jim Andrassy, an Ohio guy, for doing such an amazing job at Kent. And, once again, congrats to Dustin Kilgore for becoming a national champion!

I know they would have to get permission from ESPN and possibly the NCAA, but they need to put the video of the pin on the KSU intro video they run on the big screen before the home matches.

How would you rank MOW based on performance? I ask because I believe Kilgore would have been top 3 or 4, having wrestled a truly dominant tournament.
This is how my MOW ballot would have looked:
Burroughs
Oliver
Robles
Dake
Kilgore
Pretty elite company.

Fun fact...
Prior to the finals, Kilgore scored at least 10 points in every match and then the pin against Foster. That's a lot of points at the NCAA tourney. Great weekend for Dustin.

Kilgore must be crazy strong because I don't watch him wrestle and find myself blown mesmerized by his technique. Don't get me wrong--he's got a terrific single/double combo and he times it beautifully. But he's not a huge 197 nor was he as slick as guys like Simaz or Foster.
I also found myself marveling at how he ended up with his pin. Foster was cutting the corner as a counter to Dustin's shot and looked to be in prime position to get another takedown. Dustin caught his leg, however, before he worked it in and elevated it. That's not what usually happens in this position (think J. Jaggers). He caught Foster sitting on his hip

...and wasn't it sweet, Hank!?!?!?! That was a great moment. I can only imagine how Coach Andrassy felt.

I understand what you're saying, but I thought he made his feelings quite clear. That was the most excited I've seen a coach in a long, long, looooong time.

Based on this tourney only, I'd have to put Wright/Reader above Kilgore. Hard to put him there when he was down by 4 before the reversal & pin.
I'm with you on your top 4.

IMO, The Kilgore v Foster match is eerily similar of what is going on in freestyle at the World Championships. The US guys are getting out techniqued or positioned in the first part of the match and scoring later in the match as their opponent starts to fatigue and their position begins to compromise.
IMO, I think Kilgore would have absolutely owned the third period if it had gone there.
Huge for Kent. Huge for Kilgore.
