Place - Team - Score - (# of Semifinalists, Consolationists)
01. Cornell…61.0 (4, 1)
02. Penn State…60.5 (4, 3)
03. Iowa…52.0 (2, 4)
04. American…49.0 (3, 1)
05. Oklahoma State…44.5 (2, 4)

Semifinalists (for the top three teams)

125: #2 M. McDonough (Iowa) vs. #3 B. Precin (Northwestern)

133: #2 A. Hochstrasser (Boise State) vs. #3 A. Long (Penn State)

141: #1 K. Russell (Michigan) vs. #5 M. Marion (Iowa)

149: #4 K. Dake (Cornell) vs. #8 G. Sanjaa (American)
149: #2 F. Molinaro (Penn State) vs. #6 Chamberlain (Boise State)

157:#2 S. Fittery (American) vs. #3 D. Taylor (Penn State)

165: NONE

174: #3 M. Lewnes (Cornell) vs. #7 N. Amuchastegui (Stanford)

184: #8 Q. Wright (Penn State) vs. #12 G. Gramball (Iowa)
184: #2 R. Hamlin (Lehigh) vs. #3 S. Bosack (Cornell)

197: #1 C. Simaz (Cornell) vs. #4 D. Kilgore (KSU)

285: NONE

I find it interesting that there is only one head-to-head battle between any of the top three (184). American can overcome Iowa, but I think they have a long way to go to catch the other two.

CONSOLATION BRACKET (for the top three)

125: NONE

133: M. Grey (Cornell) vs. F. Ray (Utah Valley)
133: T. Ramos (Iowa) vs. Ruggirello (Hofstra)

141: A. Alton (Penn State) vs. Kemmerer (Penn)

149: NONE

157: D. St. John (Iowa) vs. M. Lewandowski (Buffalo)

165: A. Janssen (Iowa) vs. Onufer (Wyoming)

174: E. Ruth (Penn State) vs. L Manuel (Purdue)

184: NONE

197: L. Lofthouse (Iowa) vs. J. Ward ISU)

285: C. Wade (Penn State) vs. R. Alcala (Indiana)

It should be mentioned that Penn State had two wrestlers drop to injury default. I think both will return for at least one match, in order to test any treatment they may have received. I would think they need at least one to win a match.

With the above break down, I kind of like Cornell heading into tonight's round. I think 3 of their 4 kids are set up for wins (149, 174 & 197).

I like 149 and 184 for the Nittany Lions. As much as Ben Golden will get a kick out of this, I think Taylor is in for a dog fight. One he could win, but a fight like he's yet to be in.

Iowa's best chance is McDonough (125) and that one will NOT be easy. In the bottom for Iowa, I think Ramos is the odd man out. He has not made it easy on himself down there.

Anything else???

I just pasted this in order to compare it to (remind me of) my picks!

01. Cornell... 97.5
02. Penn State... 95
03. Iowa... 93
04. Oklahoma State... 88
05. Wisconsin...81

125: #1 Anthony Robles (ASU) vs. #2 Matt McDonough (Iowa)... #1 Robles (ASU) dec. 7-3
133: #1 Jordan Oliver (OSU) vs. #6 Tony Ramos (Iowa)... #6 Ramos (Iowa) dec. 5-4
141: #1 Kellen Russell (UofM) vs. #2 Michael Thorn (Minn)... #1 Russell (UofM) dec. 7-2
149: #4 Kyle Dake (Cornell) vs. #2 Frank Molinaro (PSU)... #4 Dake (BIG RED) dec. 3-2 utb
157: #1 Adam Hall (BSU) vs. #3 David Taylor (PSU)... #3 Taylor (PSU) dec. 9-3
165: #1 Jordan Burroughs (Nebraska) vs. #2 Andrew Howe (Wisconsin)... #1 Burroughs (Nebraska) dec. 6-3
174: #1 Jonathan Reader (ISU) vs. #3 Mack Lewnes (Cornell)... #1 Reader (ISU) dec. 5-2
184: #5 Joe LeBlanc (Wyoming) vs. #3 Steve Bosak (Cornell)... #5 LeBlanc (Wyoming) dec. 4-2 SV
197: #1 Cam Simaz (Cornell) vs. #2 Clayton Foster (OSU)... #1 Simaz (BIG RED) MD 10-2
285: #1 Zachary Rey (Lehigh) vs. #3 Ryan Flores (American)... #3 Flores (American) dec. 2-1 uot

I agree with you. Fittery has been tough all year and is definately on fire in the tournament.

It's interesting. In the first round, both Taylor and Fittery closer matches. Then they got things going (both with techs in the second round). Fittery then stomped Bryce Saddoris, whom he had beaten in a tight match in the EIWA finals, with a fall. And Taylor made it through another tight one with St. John.

I can't figure Taylor out with St. John. Although he is 3-0 in the series, he appears more conservative than against other opponents. I'm not trying to take anything away from St. John. Maybe he is just bringing it and that's why the matches are closer, but Taylor smashes everyone else except for him. A possible answer is that St. John is a great scrambler and seems to be neutralizing Taylor's top wrestling (which is where he typically racks up points).

Any other insights?

Fittery is a fantastic wrestler but i believe his style plays into Taylor's hands. Taylor's toughest opponent was St. John in the quarters because he knows how to wrestle Taylor.

Taylor will snake around the mat, lasso the powerful Fittery, start trapping those arms and making his life hard.

Taylor would have struggled with the Bucknell kid, LeValley, who has to be the weakest wrestler in tourney history. This kid makes me look big. But he's all arms, legs, elbows. He's like a piece of rope.

As an aside, I picked too many young guys to make the tourney finals. Ramos and Ruth? Took a beating on those two picks.

Also, don't forget that St. John beat Taylor in freestyle last summer I believe. He obviously matches up very well with Taylor.

Mark, I agree Taylor is in for a dog fight. Fittery has put up nearly as many bonus points this year as Taylor has--I've mentioned this before. I still think Taylor's poise and incredible mat sense bring him out on top of what will be an awesome match!

AHHH THE SEMIS ARE GOING TO BE AWESOME! TAYLOR, SPONSELLER, KILGORE!

or Taylor-- wrestling Letters daily gives him a great "preview" of a better version of Fittery.

I am STOKED for Kilgore's match. I would love to see Kent State get a finalist. I just rewatched his early season victory over Simaz. Talk about a close yet exciting match. I'm sure that this semi-final match will be at least as exciting.

I remembered what the espn3 (or maybe it was ESPN-U) crew said that was not true... After a loss the announcer mentioned that guys come back and get 3rd all the time. As if that is commonplace. Yeah... RIGHT! Whatever, dude.

ps: Q. Wright is lengthy, funky and good(y)!

Kilgore is in.

How bad does Jenkins want to be hated with his hotdogging?

Nice job by Kilgore. I like his chances in the finals.

Robert Hamlin wins the quarters and semis with a limp leg spin. That guy is a heck of an athlete.

And for a big man, it certainly is more noticeable and enjoyable to watch. IMO.

Also, Cornell took it on the chin in that semifinal round. Wow!!!
