Hunter Stieber - Won his fourth Ohio high school state championship

Cam Tessari - Won his fourth Ohio high school state championship

Johnni DiJulius - Won his third Ohio high school state championship

Kenny Courts - A regional champion, he looks to win his second Pennsylvania state title this weekend.

Orry Elor - Earned his second All-California honor by placing third in the state. He lost a close 4-3 bout in the semifinals to the nation's #18-ranked wrestler, Nevills, who is only a freshman yet won the state championship.

Alex,
Don't forget that former multiple-time Washington state champion and Fargo champion, Derek Garcia, will also arrive on campus next fall. He's currently training in Colorado Springs.

Considering the scholarship monies available (or lack thereof) and the great out-of-state recruits, I'd say this is a good group to have gotten the fence around.

I think it will be fascinating to see how the Monroeville guys do in college after their stellar high school careers. Obviously Logan isn't a fair measuring stick this year.

And they all can RIDE! Add DiJulius to that group, too.

I'm curious to see how these three, who weighed 125, 130 and 135 in HS, fit into the college lineup - someone is going to have to grow.

JP: Good point. Assuming that Logan Stieber moves up next year--as rumored--it's likely that Paddock will bulk up to 141. That's going to put H. Stieber, Tessari and Languis all at the same weight. Will all three redshirt? Or will Ryan try to get the biggest up to 149 to give Fee and Grandomico more competition? Also, it would hardly be a shock if Paddock needs off-season surgery and needs a redshirt season to recover. That would really create an interesting situation. Finally, if Logan moves up, isn't DiJulius going to have to come down? Can he redshirt and emerge as the starting 125 in the fall of 2012?

Next year's lineup:
125: Triggas
133: L. Stieber
141: Paddock (unless he redshirts)
149: Fee, Languis, Grandomico, H. Stieber--pick one.
157: Demas
165: Garcia
174: Heflin
184: Magrum/Capone/Courts
197: Same three
285: Transfer--I don't know who but they've gotta find someone.

I've heard some talk that they are considering Capone moving up to heavyweight if he can bulk up over the summer. I also think Hunter Stieber, who seems taller and thicker in the legs than Tessari, is more likely to be a 149-pounder. Who knows what growth spurts are lurking for the incoming freshman, though. I'm hoping DiJulius can get down to 125 after Triggas graduates. I think he'll make a good 125-pounder with a good redshirt year under his belt.

Capone at 285? (Shaking head incredulously.)

DiJulius to 125 in two years seems unlikely. I typically see kids go up 1-2 weights upon entering college and really hitting the weights hard.

I'm sure there are Walsh Jesuit insiders on here. Does anyone know his walking weight?

If you're struggling to find a strong 285, bumping up a 197 is never a bad idea. The athleticism that weight class requires can often neutralize the average heavyweights and you won't run into trouble until you get to the top 30 big boys. Was Colton Bowers wrestling much this season? He placed 5th and 2nd at state at 189 and was an NHSCA All-American according to OSU's website. Perhaps he could bulk up and be a 215-220 pound heavyweight until the long-term answer comes along.

Or you could start the kid from California but this would seem to be one of tougher weights to acclimate to as an 18 year-old.

Regardless, the lineup listed above will be full of blue chippers and it will be even better in two years.

Capone isn't even a good-sized 197. I just don't see it happening. If Gardner -- remember him? -- were still here, I could see it. He was a big 197-pounder.

If Capone is the answer to heavyweight next year he isn't the long-term answer. I like him at 197 pounds if he bulks up there.

The case of Nick Nutter at heavyweight, Nick wrestled 177 at the 1994 Big Ten Championships. The summer of 1993 he was around 230. Nick is an endomorph (body type) and puts on weight easily. He was in the top 6 at 177 and had qualified for NCAAs, but two belly-to-back suplays from top in referee position when Rawls (UM) stood up led to his disqualification. They were pretty throws but Wade Schalles just cared that they were illegal.

In '94-'95, Nutter wrestled at 197 and had an average season.

In '95-'96, Nutter came in at 222 and was wrestling heavyweight. He did well early, placing in Vegas and showed well during the year and at Big 10s and Nationals.

My point for telling the story is that Capone up at heavyweight is not a totally outlandish idea. The guy can wrestle and he can greatly improve his strength. Just because you look a little doughy does not mean that you are not strong.

There's also "grayshirt" Tyler Lehman and/or Andrew Campolattano as possible additions to this class. I think Penn State is still the front-runner for Campolattano.

As for Capone, I have no doubt that he could handle the challenge of moving to 285 if that's what they do, based on how he's handled the move to 197.

Quote from Jack Muni's post:

"I've heard some talk that they are considering Capone moving up to heavyweight if he can bulk up over the summer. I also think Hunter Stieber..."

When I read this, I had to do a double take. I thought I read that you wanted to bulk Hunter up to Heavy Weight. :-)
