Discussion Topic: Kent hosts Ohio this Friday - Dual of the Year in Ohio
Ethan Moore added to this discussion on February 7, 2011
Last year Kent won 17-16 in Athens.
With OU beating Central, this should be for the regular season MAC title. Kent is definitely favored.
I would think Kent would be favored at 25, 57, 65, 74, 97, and 285.
OU favored at 41 and 74.
Toss ups at 33 and 49.
Matches of the night:
197 Kilgore vs. Schuth (Kilgore the heavy favorite, Schuth a top 15 guy)
285 Barlow vs. Johnson (two heavies who are fun to watch)
Bottom line, it will be a great event whoever wins. I heard Coach Andrassy say he was hoping for 3,000 fans at Kent.
Those of us upset that OSU and Kent don't wrestle should be excited about this dual, which features two solid Ohio programs. A great night for Ohio wrestling.

Shawn - here's my two cents.
125 - Bedleyon vs. Ramos - Kent the clear favorite here, although Ramos is putting himself into NQ consideration. I see this as a possible bonus for Kent.
133 - Small vs. Wojcik/Moore If Wojcik is back in the line up, I see this as a toss up. If Moore (who has filled in admirably) is in the line up, I see Small as the favorite.
141 - Skonieczny vs. Lindsey - I think Lindsey has majored/pinned Skonieczny the last few times they've wrestled, but I also think Skonieczny is dangerous and better than his record. OU is favored here.
149 - Clopton vs. Squire/Boing - I see this as a toss up weight. Squire was looking very good early but hasn't wrestled for over a month due to injury. Clopton is a great defensive wrestler and is always in place to win late in matches.
157 - Cathell/Shuster vs. Kline/Gordon - OU will want to avoid bonus here.
165 - Tice vs. Wilson - Tice will be looking for bonus.
174 - Johnson vs. Purdue - Johnson is underrated, but going into the match you would place Purdue as the favorite. Johnson will be a good one.
184 - Newburg/Witt vs. Garringer - Witt beat Garringer something like 5-3 at the Scuffle and rode him for about 4 minutes. Newburg is always in good position tough to score on. Slight favorite here for KSU.
197 - Kilgore vs. Schuth - Kilgore is the favorite. They wrestled a couple years ago and I think the final was something like 16-8 (purely on memory). These two could both AA.
285 - Barlow vs. Johnson - I see this as a close match coming down to whoever gets the TD. I think Barlow is the favorite on experience. Both are very good and make Ohio proud.
As stated, this should be seen as the dual of the year in Ohio. I have Kent as the clear favorite, they just have no gaps in their line up and have more up top strength in Kilgore and Bedleyon.
Last year it was 5-5, but OU matched up better with Morton and Tucker winning matches at 49 and 57.
Should be fun. Both coaches staffs are turning marginal recruits into rankable D1 wrestlers, which they should be proud of.

Just got clearance from the wife. I'm pretty sure I am in. Yes, I am whipped, it is what it is so don't ask.
KSU starts at 7:05. Two high school matches first starting at 5:00, I believe.
