Now that Tom Brands Iowa squad has beaten him at PSU, as it always did when Sanderson was at Iowa State, has your perception of him changed a bit?

Quentin Wright has no shoulder strength and looks like his wrestling is totally compromised by the injury.

As a collective whole, Brands does a better job of getting his guys to create offense for seven minutes while not giving up much position.

His guys are either creating or maintaining the pace from start to finish. His recipe is intensity with attention to detail. He mixes the recipe better than anyone else.

I see a lot of intensity out of other teams but with lapses or oversights to detail. The best guys carry the intensity along with detail for the full match.

David Taylor and Ed Ruth are special in that both have overwhelmingly effective offensive attacks, rarely come out of position and if they do, they make immediate adjustments to compensate for it.

The Iowa guys are bruisers that bang and post for seven minutes, plus schooled in effective countermeasures. The constant pressure and lack of space prevents or compromises a lot of their opponent's attacks.

I get the implication but think he deserves one more year to change it.

In my mind the two matches that epitomozed the stereotyped differences between the two were Long/Ramos and Alton/Marion.

Long missed some time but had about 5 matches under his belt and seemed gassed at the end of his match, which he should have won on paper.

Marion had no matches yet this year but took it to Alton the whole 7 while Alton seemed to fatigue. Alton had about 24 matches by that time.

I'll defer to Rex and others on the technical issues.

My opinion of Coach Sanderson has not changed, but my opinion of Brands has. I didn't give him enough credit for the job he obviously does preparing his wrestlers for competition.

This was an "Iowa Mistique" type of dual. Brands went into Sanderson's house with, by all accounts, an inferior squad and won a match he shouldn't have.

Why would that change our opinions of Cael? I agree with Mike, I probably have more respect for Brands. But, I certainly have no less of an opinion of Cael.

not sure why we are passing judgement on either of them...but especially cael at this point, only 2 years into his run at PSU...and after one dual meet loss to Iowa...

both of these coaches and teams are young in their careers, so in my opinion, it should be a couple of years before we pass judgement...

its amazing the level of talent both staffs have been able to assemble in the rooms on paper - now let's see how these squads compete over their 3-4 remaining years, and as importantly, how the backfill of talent progresses over those years.
