A month or so ago, I asked Cameron Wade why his summer freestyle success hadn't translated into beating the top guys in folkstyle. His answer? "The mental aspects are my problem. I'm the only one who beats me." Last week I mentioned that Cam had had a nice year, but would sit right beneath the top tier until he upended someone in that tier. Given the chance against Pitt's #3 Ryan Tomei, the Penn State junior did just that on Friday. The two heavyweights exchanged takedowns in the bout, but Wade's third-period escape propelled him to a 3-2 victory. Cam's takedown came late in the first period. Not only did he ride Tomei until the period ended, but also rode him for the entire second period. After Wade's third-period escape, Tomei managed a takedown of his own. However, Cam's tenacious riding won him the match.
