Interesting...

I'd love to know whether or not the Meades contacted Ohio State.

John Smith complained about his work ethic and other issues in several interviews over the last year or so. If it was bad enough that he was kicked off the team, I'm not sure he's the "right kind of guy" that Ryan has talked about recruiting now.

He's certainly talented, though.

Ben: As I recall, Meade verballed to Ohio State then reneged.

The guy is talented and I suspect that a lot of schools would be willing to give this guy a second chance. He beat Morningstar in Carver-Hawkeye arena as a freshman, which is huge. The only thing about bringing him on board is that if his work ethic does prove to be an issue, then the rest of the team will see it. This does not reflect a team concept and can undermine an ideology of work ethic that is in place. Causing derision and team chaos.
So, it could be considered a big risk.
Hopefully he finds a place in WVA where he will be reeled in rather than alienated and his work ethic will not be questioned.

I didn't know that he had verballed to tOSU, Hank. Interesting.

But my point was more what Rex was saying: it would seem he has some work ethic or "character" issues that have, at least at Okie State, prevented him from progressing as much as he was capable.

In recent interviews, Ryan has said that he has recruited guys with "character issues" before, but no longer wants to pursue that type of guy.

Rex: Another impressive win Meade had as a freshman was over Dustin Schlatter.

Ben-
It sounds like he will be Greg Jone's project from the wording of the article.

Hypothetically, the coach may be set in his way and rigidly adhere to a doctrine of preparation. Whereas, the athlete may show signs of greatness but fall short of expectations when it counts due to the nature of the preparation. There will be a division as to who believes they are right and their will be no common ground.

Sometimes, egos collide and offset one another and it becomes a lose-lose. I'm just sayin' hypothetically of course.
