Big news for a name most of us haven't heard in a while:
Isaac Dukes (formerly of Ravenna) upsets #3 seed Corey Jantzen in the first round of Midlands.

Kent State is currently winning the Scuffle by 0.5 points!
Now, they won't maintain that lead through the end of this round, but they are certainly doing well.

Very strong showing by Kent. KSU has one of the deepest squads in the country. I think you can look at several weights and still not know who the true starter is, which is a great problem for a coach.
Zeb, or Kent insiders, who is the 'number 1' at 57 and 84?
Kent is currently in 5th, but, more impressive, they have 12 wrestling into day two (I believe this is the highest number of any team). With Bedelyon and Cathell they would certainly have moved up.
KSU wrestlers in the quarters:
Sasfy (i think he is the back up at 49 - DEPTH)
Tice (beat Nick Sulzer 6-5, and early indication of how good Sulzer will be because Tice is no-joke)
Witt AND Newburg at 84
Kilgore (tracking for another wrestling fan's delight with Simaz)

Mixed bag for OU on day one. Purdue and Johnson are in the quarters. Johnson beat another NQ and gets Wade in the morning. Should be a good indicator of where he is on the national stage. Purdue should win and be in the semis.
Lindsey loses in rd 1 and then won several matches and is still alive. He has those slip ups from time to time, consistency being the barrier to true star status.
OU wrestled without starters Schuth, Squire, Ramos, and Wojcik, hurting them in the team standings.
Freshman Garringer looks like he is going to be pretty solid at 84. Hopefully he will continue to improve.
From a depth perspective, pretty solid performances from Hartshorn, Sanders, and the freshmen Wenger and Nolan.
OU has real problems at 57 and 65, they desperately need someone to step up at those weights.

Joe Tymosuzuk (Kent's Backup heavyweight) beats Ben Berhow in the consos!
Berhow had been ranked around #6 in the country at the beginning of the season, but he lost his spot to an excellent freshman Tony Nelson

David Taylor techs and pins his way through his 157 pound bracket. His half-bracket was about as weak as you will see in a tournament like this, but his finals opponent was quality: Indiana's #9 Paul Young. Taylor teched him.

Honeycutt looks to represent the best chance for Eds to extend their streak of Division 1 AAs.
