Josh Zupancic Named Assistant Wrestling Coach
Dan Carr - CSU Sports Information Department
August 11, 2010

Cleveland, Ohio - Josh Zupancic, a former two time All-American as a student at Stanford University, has joined Cleveland State's wrestling coaching staff as an assistant coach. Head coach, Ben Stehura announced the hiring on Wednesday.

"We're very excited about adding Josh to our staff," Stehura said. "His success as both a wrestler and a student will have a positive impact on our team." “Being coached by a former CSU wrestler (Todd Randall) in youth and high school wrestling, I am well aware of the tradition at CSU and look forward to helping bring the program back to the top of the EWL and NCAA standings,” Zupancic said.

Zupancic was only the third two-time NCAA All-American in Stanford wrestling history, earning the honor in his junior and senior seasons. In 2007 he finished seventh at the NCAA Championships. Zupancic topped this performance in 2008 when he defeated three ranked opponents in consecutive matches, en route to a sixth place finish at the NCAA Championships.

His career record at Stanford was 120-34, making him the third-winningest wrestler in the program's history. The National Wrestling Coaches Association named Zupancic an Academic All-American in all four of his years as a collegiate athlete.

Prior to his outstanding career at Stanford, Zupancic was a four-time state finalist while attending Walsh Jesuit High. In 2002, he won the state championship.

Zupancic joins Cleveland State after two years of coaching club wrestling while a graduate student at Oklahoma. He also worked as a student-athlete career counselor at Oklahoma, and has seven years of experience as camp counselor and clinician at various wrestling camps and clinics.
