Discussion Topic: Buckeye Recruiting Keeps Rolling
J.P. Barner added to this discussion on May 9, 2010

Quote from Rex Holman's post:

"Regarding a plateau in terms of development, it is a very real phenomena.

Whether someone reaches a point in their development where their development stalls is dependent upon their training situation and their capacity for adaptation.

An athlete needs to take on challenges of increasingly difficult but doable tasks. Sound instruction and excellent coaching is necessary to bridge the gaps in difficulty.

An athlete left unchallenged will likely lose interest.

An athlete overwhelmed, will find a new pursuit.

An athlete untaught, will likely make the same mistakes.

An athlete with guidance and incremental improvement goes on to do great things."

Can't a young man take a 'breather' at times - to rest and refresh? Perhaps we are over analysing the situation?

My comments were provided as a general analysis of what happens. I have firsthand experience for myself and others as an athlete and coach.

Just to clear it up, I was offering insight as to process.

The 17-21 years of age time span is pivotal in a wrestler's career.

Logan is in the position that Henry Cejudo was in out of high school; bona fide stud with Olympic medal potential in this cycle (2012). He may be ahead in his development at this age. A lot rides on the next 2 years.

Chris Phillips is a special talent. His continued development hinges upon excellent coaching and progressively increasing competition. Not rocket science, but sometimes the concept gets lost in the shuffle.
