Discussion Topic: Graham v. Blair Academy tonight?

I believe it's tonight, right? Will anyone be tracking it here?

I saw Zeb wasn't able to make it, I hope someone tapes it!

Edit - On InterMat it says the dual is at 7.

I think Graham is too tough. Felipe will beat Villanonga. (sp?)

I'd love to see Graham win. Great for Ohio if they do.

I'll be there tonight for InterMat. I don't think I'll have live coverage as there is no wi-fi connection in the gym. I will have a recap up on InterMat afterwards. I would imagine someone will be there to tape this.

So far it's all Graham with a 19-3 lead after 135.

Blair went for bumping 112-140 up to 119-145 to cover for a weak spot at 145. This has hurt them significantly. They were trying to cover for a loss at 145 and pick up a tossup 112 match with their backup (which their starter would have dominated).

HOWEVER, the problems in this were: (1) Their 103 was upset in a battle of ranked wrestlers (2) the backup 112 lost a tossup with Casady (3) Silver/Brascetta tossup went to Brascetta (4) Parsons and Preston are out of their element up a weight against the brothers Jordan.

Blair needs to get a sweep here with Ormsbee/Martinez and Villalonga/Stephens to have a shot, and then Shanaman at 152 has to win -- or they may have to go backup at 152 and try to pick up that with Shanaman going to 160.

A poster on themat.com (who also posts here) reports that Martinez beats Ormsbee 10-3 to make the team score 22-3. Villalonga vs. Stephens coming up.

And those are freaking enormous wins for Brascetta (over Evan Silver) and Felipe Martinez (over Austin Ormsbee).

Quote from Pat Costilow's post:

I would have liked Martinez over Villalonga too if they had wrestled. But Brascetta's win is a surprise.Silver looked so good at the Ironman.

How under appreciated is Brascetta? He is a one man wrecking crew this year.

Graham took Blair behind the woodshed.

Blair gave up almost certain bonus points at 12.

Sure seems the entire SPG team has made strides. They were impressive at Eds and even more impressive (by accounts) against Blair.

Not sure how Blair NOT changing their lineup would have made much difference. I'm also not sure that SPG doesn't win the Ironman if wrestled today despite Blair's "studs".

Brascetta is very under appreciated- I have expressed this to Dan a couple of times in our discussions. I think he is right there with the best 119s in the country. He has a laundry list of big wins this year, his only loss being at the Ironman, where he didn't look as comfortable with the weight jump as he does now. I would take him over any 119 in the country right now, maybe even Hunter Stieber if he was back down at the weight.

The dual was electric. Standing room only as the national title was on the line. The gym is something out of Hoosiers and the crowd was too. Graham came out swinging and they hit Blair right in the mouth.

At the intermission after Martinez just steamrolled over Ormsbee it was 21-3 right there you knew it was over for Blair as they were hoping to get those key lower weight victories.

More to come later.

I thought someone said that Flo was not going to be at the match last night?

So does this win ensure a #1 ranking for Graham? Curious as to the thoughts of Josh Lowe and Bob Preusse.

I would have to think that this would give them #1 they have proven themselves against the best competition this year. They were 2nd at Ironman without a full lineup as both B. Jordan and Martinez were out along with Cassidy. They proved it last night that they were the best team in the nation.
