Nice to see the redshirts out there winning. I see Palmer went 141. Wonder if he'll stay there next year? I see Cody Butzer is at NDC now. Interesting journey.

Jack- I have a few thoughts on Palmer's weight situation, which I have discussed at length with Dan. First of all, I am surprised that he is making 141, and doubt that he will be able to beyond this year- we know how those guys lift. I would like to see Paddock get a redshirt next year to build up some tools, as he could be very good in the long run, but I see things working out like this;

125- Stieber
133- Triggas
141- Paddock
149- Palmer/Jameson
157- Nemec/Jameson
165- Sponseller
174- Capone?
184- Heflin
197- Magrum
285- Hiles

Stieber is too good to hold out, and I think he beats Triggas handily. I have a feeling Triggas could benefit from the bump in weight- kid seems to be sucking a bit much. Paddock is tall and could pack some muscle on. Then we get to Palmer, on whom I have already commented. I really am not sure what is Jameson's ideal weight, but I have a feeling if it is 149, we see him there next year.

Interesting to see Grajales competing- well sort of, defaulting out of his first match and then the tournament.

Nice tourney for Fee.

Interesting indeed to see Rohler and Butzer there for NDC.

Jason Effner is back on the mat- good for him.

Wow- Manju Jabbie competing at 285. I haven't heard that name in a few years, other than in the context of "what happened to Manju Jabbie his senior year?'.

Zach Marshall is in there listed under "LW". Is that 2005 State Champ Zach Marshall of Mason, and who is LW?

But it would be interesting if Palmer can stay at 141. Redshirt Paddock, then the following year you have Stieber, Paddock, Palmer, Jameson, Nemec, with Garcia, Demas, Capone, Heflin and whoever, sorting things out at the upper wgts.

Yes that is the same Zach Marshal, and LW is Lindsey Wilson college.

Gotta give the Buckeyes a lot of credit for the roster they've put together. Not only do they have one of the best lineups in the country on the mat, but the room is filled with young talent.

Let's look at Ashland results:
133: Brian Kelly, 3rd
141: Collin Palmer, Champ
149: Mike Fee, champ
165: Dan Foley, 3rd
174: Nick Heflin, Champ
184: Pete Capone, 3rd
184: Jeremy Sanders, 5th
197: Kyle Sanders, 2nd

Add names like Hiles, Harrington and Kusar to this mix plus throw in the incoming group of Demas, Garcia, and Stieber. And consider that frosh Paddock and Magrum are currently in the lineup and performing well. Jameson, also a frosh, has also shown promise during his current stint at 157.

When Tom Ryan arrived, there was front line talent in the room but no depth and little money available for recruits. Now, four years later, the lineup is outstanding and there is probably more depth in the room than at any point in the history of the program. I've made my occasional criticisms but this program has come an incredible distance since Tom Ryan arrived.

I just wish they'd quit goofing around and win the national title...

Did Kyle Sanders transfer from OU? I see him listed as OSU, but he was a terror in opens so far this year for OU? I hope not!

Just curious.

Hank - I agree, great depth in that room. This is the one thing that seperates Iowa right now in my opinion from the rest of the top 5. If they have someone go down, it almost doesn't matter.

OSU is becoming a great program, not just a team.

Ethan: I imagine you're correct on Kyle Sanders. Who is he? Where's he from?

Kyle Sanders is from Columbus St. Charles he was 3rd last year at 189 in DI losing to Andrew Tumlin of Harrison in the semifinals. He is a nice addition to the room.

I was looking at Magrum and wondering if he could make 184 next year. He didn't look too big at 197 and I wonder if he is just there because of Pucillo?

He's still on OU's roster.

He's had a great open season.
