I have to wonder how healthy Mike is right now losing to opponents he should other wise beat.

Yeah this is crazy! I thought for sure we see Mike in finals. I mean does anyone have inside on his health?

Losing to Kilgore is one thing, but there is no reason whatsoever that he should be losing to John Dergo.
Something's got to be wrong...

I don't know what's wrong with Pucillo but something is amiss. This guy made the national semis as a frosh and been a finalist the last two seasons. He has accomplished everything by having amazing defense, a solid set of offensive attacks, unbelievable bottom ability and solid top wrestling. I doubt Kilgore has progressed enough to beat Mike at his best--unless he's a Jake Herbert caliber competitor (which would be amazing). Dergo is solid but a round of twelve type guy. Is Pucillo hurt? Out of shape? Struggling with the weight cut? Is he dating Miley Cyrus and she's two timing him? What is going on? Last year, even coming back off injury, he would have never lost to a John Dergo. Maybe it's the pressure he feels to win it all? Just speculating. But he is way off his game right now. Someone needs to figure it out. He reminds me of how bad the Cavs looked when the season began.

Is Miley legal yet?

Have Palmer and Sponseller regressed? Both of them were a lot closer with these opponents last year in fact Palmer defeated Ruschell every match up to the last one. I hope Sponseller can keep this pace up in a tough 165 weight class and get over the hump and be an AA this year.
I like what I see out of the Buckeyes this year they seemed very well balanced and the depth could definately benefit at NCAA.

Someone wrote on InterMat blog that Lance has a bad knee and is going to get it scoped very soon and will be out a few weeks.
It's nice to see the Bucks win one. Good depth got it done. But this team has a lot of work to do if it's serious about a National Title--or even a top five finish.

I guess there's two ways to look at it...
#1) Remember J Jaggers? Losses, losses and a few more losses in the early and mid months. 2x National Champ to end it all. Brian Nicola is STILL trying to get lucky...let alone TWICE!!!
#2) Things don't pull together this year and we consider it a slump. Are we - if things don't turn around - assuming that we are regressing or that the competition is progressing? Or, even, a little of both?

I have to admit I thought a healthy Palmer beats Ruchell. And I hoped Colt's match would be closer, but all and all it's nice to see them win this early in the season. Typically, as we've seen in the past 2 years, they seem to come alive around the National Duals, mid-January. Magrum still seems to be adjusting to the higher weight class, but at least he's competitive. Triggas seems to have gotten a little more consistent, and freshman Paddock is getting a lot of matches under his belt, which hopefully will pay off in March. BTW, real nice tournament for Reece, he faced some quality guys this weekend, and I don't think he has peaked yet either. When I look back at this tournament, it really shows how important those consolation matches are in the final scoring (as Iowa showed us last year).
