CMU beats American 29-12

141- Ryan Cubberly 3-1 over Jordan Lipp

Bloomsburg 18-17 over Michigan

Bad match at 141 for UM- Mark Weber loses to Frank Hickman? Weber was the NHSCA runner up to Chase Skonieczny.

Nebraska 27-11 over Binghamton

125- David Klingsheim 16-4 over Jimmy Chase. Interesting here- both true freshman and Chase would be much bigger, IMO. Both were highly touted but Chase got 4th at the Olympic Trials (granted, in greco). One would think this would be a reasonably close match, but it was a beating.

Maryland 35-3 over Northern Colorado

141- Kenny Hashimoto of Northern Colorado beat NCAA 5th placer Alex Krom of Maryland 14-7. Who would have seen that coming.

In round two-

Central Michigan 25-12 over Virginia.

125- Matt Steintrager 5-3 over Ross Gitomer. Good win there.
157- Dan Gonsor 4-0 over Donnie Corby
184- Mike Miller 7-1 over Mike Salopek
285- Jarrod Trice wins 23-8. Trice is a monster.

Hofstra 27-9 over Northern Colorado

Penn 46-9 over Sacred Heart, who forfeited four weights and was pinned in three others

Binghamton 18-16 over North Carolina.

Central Michigan 21-16 over Maryland.
133- Scott Sentes (AA at 125 as a true frosh last year) pins Steve Bell, NCAA 6th at this weight, in 2:19.
141- Alex Krom (NCAA 5th last year) beats Ryan Cubberly 11-3.
184- Mike Miller 3-2 over Corey Peltier, Blair graduate

Lehigh 18-15 over Nebraska- good win here
125- John McDonald 7-6 over David Klingsheim. Big win here for McDonald, who may people, myself included, have been pretty rough on.
285- Zach Rey 3-2 over Tucker Lane- two big names here nationally.

American 40-4 over Northern Colorado

141- NC's only win was Kenny Hashimoto over Jordan Lipp 15-3. Hashimoto is apparently very good.

Penn 22-12 over Appalachin State. Perhaps ASU should have requested Michigan. They got 6 points from a FF at 285.

Virginia 28-6 over Hofstra- wow!
157- Dan Gonsor 15-0 over Jon Bonilla-Bowman- HUGE WIN

Central Michigan 23-15 over Bloomsburg
165- Eric Cubberly loses 5-3. Apparently he is not redshirting, as I had previously thought.
184- Mike Miller 4-3 over Derrick Coffey.

Columbia and North Carolina tie 18-18
125- Kyle Gilchrist wins 9-4
157- Matt Dunn loses 5-4. You will remember Dunn as wrestling his butt of and almost beating Adam Frey in the 2004 Ironman finals, and then beating Lance Palmer in the 2005 Ironman finals.

Eric redshirted last year.

The word is that Mike Miller is wrestling at 184 right now because he can't beat out freshman Ben Bennett for the 174 spot. Maybe Miller's having trouble with the wait, maybe Bennett's just a super stud. Probably a little bit of both. Bennett had a pretty good weekend beating Mike Letts and wrestling Chris Henrich in a very tough match (I think the score was 3-1 or 3-2). Between Miller (in a wrestle off) and Letts, he's beaten 2 top 5 guys so far. Henrich is currently #6 but has been as high as 3 or 4.

It's interesting that Miller and Erwin are both bumping up to 184 this year.

There was a lot of hype about Hashimoto a couple years ago but he took a year or two off. I've heard stories of Olympics and injuries, but I don't really know what the truth is.

Thanks for all of the updates. What a tough situation for Mike Miller! I hope he does well at 184 if that's where he ends up.

I watched the Sentes/Bell match. Sentes is a great scrambler, and never let up on Bell on top. Borelli does it year after year. Although Sentes is a 4-timer out of Florida, Borelli seems to get these kids instead of your powerhouse programs. The KSU/CMU dual at the end of the season is going to be great. Mitcheff vs Sentes, Miller vs Kilgore, WOW.

From his results, Bennett looks to be a monster. And we all remember what he did in that disgusting weight at NHSCA's a couple of years ago. If he goes 174 and Miller 184- it isn't good for Mike Miller's aspirations of winning a national title, but it could be a very good situation for CMU. Consider that they go this-

157- Steve Brown (R12 last year)
165- Eric Cubberly
174- Ben Bennett
184- Mike Miller
197- Eric Simaz
285- Jarrod Trice

That is a very tough upper portion of the lineup

From watching Miller at Lake I'm a little partial towards him individually but that is a pretty fearsome looking half line up for CMU. But what a weird deal; a national runner up having to bump up the following year because he can't win a wrestle off. This is a strange sport sometimes!

Look at Joey Slaton of Iowa. NCAA runner-up 2 years ago, now LeClare appears to be to starter at 141 for the Hawkeyes?? At least Miller will get to wrestle. Slaton appears to be the odd man out.

LeClere will be the starter for this semester, but next semester may be a different story. It's actually a 3-horse race for the Iowa 141 spot between Slaton, LeClere, and a guy named Montel Marion. Slaton is suspended for this semester for a run in with the law. Marion is academically ineligible. However, Marion beat LeClere in the wrestle-off. Slaton did not wrestle off, but he should be right there with those guys--I actually think he will probably take the spot if he's allowed to.

This is provided that Slaton stays out of Brands' doghouse long enough to make weight.
