When recruiting is brought up, everyone is talking about Andy Campolattano. In his freshman and sophomore years he competed at 189 pounds in New Jersey. As a result of having only one division for the whole state, New Jersey has only crowned one four-time state champion ever. Campolattano is on pace to be the second. Starting at such a high weight makes that even more impressive. Also a cadet double national champ, Campolattano's name is often mentioned with a wrestler we are very familiar with: Chris Phillips. Since there's a lot of Buckeye recruiting talk on the forum now, I looked up Campolattano's results. Here you go...

2009 NJSIAA State Tournament
189 pounds
Championship Eighthfinal: W pin Evan Dill (Watchung Hills) 0:58
Championship Quarterfinal: W tf. Leon White (St. Augustine) 15-0
Championship Semifinal: W inj. Jon Becker (Bergen Catholic)
Championship Final: W dec. Mac Mancuso (Holy Spirit) 10-7

2008 USAW National Tournament - Men's Freestyle, Cadet Division
189 pounds
Match 1: W tf. Pat Nusekabel (Ohio) 7-1, 6-0
Match 2: W pin Drew Miller (Minnesota) 0:43
Match 3: W pin Cody Wesson (North Carolina) 8-0, 0:29
Match 4: W tf. Tim Hartwig (Idaho) 6-0, 6-0
Match 5: W pin Austin Moorehead (California) 3-5, 0:49
Match 6: W dec. Cameron Croy (Tennessee) 2-0, 7-0
Match 7: W dec. Nicholas Ruggear (Pennsylvania) 5-3, 5-0
Match 8: W dec. Mike McGrath (New York) 5-1, 6-0
Match 9: W pin Scott Schiller (North Dakota) 1:38
Championship Final: Morgan McIntosh (California) 1-0, 1-0

2008 USAW National Tournament - Greco-Roman, Cadet Division
189 pounds
Match 1: W pin Logan Barrett (Minnesota) 7-0, 0:49
Match 2: W tf. Andy Dixon (Ohio) 6-0, 9-0
Match 3: W pin David Severn (Michigan) 1:13
Match 4: W pin Scott Schiller (North Dakota) 1:17
Match 5: W dec. Austin Moorehead (California) 7-0, 5-4
Match 6: W dec. Dustin Williams (Missouri) 6-0, 3-0
Championship Final: W dec. Morgan McIntosh (California) 1-1, 0-4, 2-1

2008 NJSIAA State Tournament
189 pounds
Championship Eighthfinal: W dec. Hany Elshiekh (Brearley) 13-6
Championship Quarterfinal: W dec. Tyler Smith (Belvidere) 6-5
Championship Semifinal: W pin Isiah Miles (Sterling) 0:20
Championship Final: W dec. Jon Becker (Bergen Catholic) 4-2

Ahhh yes, he is beast. It's interesting to note that his opponent in the freestyle and greco events was Morgan McIntosh. If I remember correctly, Bob was saying there was interest in/from both Camp and McIntosh. It should be a very hard fight for tOSU to get the guys they want next year, I'm looking forward to it.

The thing is, both tOSU and PSU are great training situations for an upperweight. If Camp is 197, he has Cael to work with at PSU. At tOSU, I would say it is a little better of a situation with Bergman, Rowlands, Dlagnev, and perhaps Pucillo if he sticks around.

for partner Cael trumps here, plus he and Campo same size.

Do anyone else see Camp as a future heavyweight, possibly going after Phillips(174-184), McIntosh(197), and Camp(285), next year? Already having Stieber and calling it the best upperweight recruiting class ever?

I'm pretty sure Campolettano will be a 197/211 on the next level(s).

Quote from Bob Preusse's post:

"for partner Cael trumps here, plus he and Campo same size."

A head coach has to worry about the whole team, though. Obviously Cael is, well, Cael, but he's just one guy with a lot of responsibilities while Bergman, Dlagnev and Pucillo will all be in competition shape. Throw in Rowlands and Phillips and that's quite a group.

I'm not saying having Cael to work with isn't a grrreeat situation, because obviously it is. I just think tOSU would offer him a little more in terms of training partners.

Interview With Camp & his finals match. This kid is a huge 189 lber as a sophmore, I can see him a solid 225lbs as a true frosh and cutting to 211lbs for international competition. As far as training, yes Cael is the best ever, but different styles in the form of Bergman, Dlagnev, Luke, Yonushonis, Pucillo, Rowlands, Magrum, Coleman, Randleman, Hiles, Demas, and Hopefully Phillips & McIntosh could also help him develop.

I guess the Bucks are reaching a point where they can recruit talent on top of talent. If Campolattano is a future 285 then he is a fantastic pickup. But with Garcia, Demas, Heflin and Magrum, the Bucks have good potential starters from 165-197. I'd still love to see them get Phillips. But it's not vital to the lineup. Just makes them deeper and stronger.

yes ohio st could offer array of very good big partners ---depending how big Campo is or is not he may not want to wr with Dlagnev. And maybe Pucillo will choose to move on with his life and get a paying job. Hiles & Magrum have not yet distinguished themselves. Campo way too big for Demas & Luke.

have no indication Ohio st recruiting McIntosh as of today, btw. Always subject to change of course. And Phillips far from a lock to go to ohio st.

but buckeyes definitely in the running for Campo, he would prosper there i am sure..
