Who are the best wrestlers at each weight - irrespective of division?

Just an out-of-stater seeking the opinions of the board. <smile>

103: Nick Brascetta, St. Paris Graham
112: Jerome Robinson, Cleveland. St. Ignatius (although Ty Mitch looked really good at the state tourney)
119: Jamie Clark, Lakewood St. Edward
125: Logan Stieber, Monroeville
130: Felipe Martinez, St. Paris Graham
135: David Taylor, St. Paris Graham
140: Collin Palmer, Lakewood St. Edward
145: Brian Stephens, St. Paris Graham
152: Josh Demas, Westerville North
160: Zach Toal, Troy Christian
171: Chris Phillips, Monroeville
189: Max Thomusseit, St. Paris Graham, Although Andrew Tumlin can make a case
215: Orlando Scales, Cincinnati. Elder
285: Jeremy Johnson, Brecksville

Other than 189, I think this year was pretty cut and dry. Hunter Stieber spent some time at 112, and if there he's the guy with his win over Squire and Robinson at Brecksville. But if he's up at 119, I like Clark.

152 is a mess- Dan and I discussed this re all class rankings. IMO, McGookey has a decent argument based on his entire resume- placed well at NHSCAs last summer. But he did lose a match to Wukie, who was smoked by Gasber. It is just a mess. You really can't go wrong with Demas or McGookey. Then again, McGookey got 5th at the Ironman, where Sulzer was second (Luster from GA beat Habat in OT for third). Demas then beat Sulzer for the state title. IMO, you have to rank Demas first. Then it is really a mess.

Oh, BTW, I can't disagree with any of your picks, Mike. Hard to pick against Jamie Clark, even when it is against Hunter Stieber. Clark wrestles a lot like Devin Carter and with comparable skills, who beat Stieber. That is my rationale there.

There is less than zero debate for the number one spot this year, except maybe at 152. If you're ranking on state tournament weights.

If you examine Tumlin's results against those of Thomusseit, you would have to be looking at something else to pick Tumlin. I mean the kid could easily have lost the state final to Mike Lanigan.

If there is a debate at 152, then I think it's between Demas and Sulzer.

Pardon my ignorance: Did Stephens beat Habat head to head? I really like Habat although if that's the case, then I understand the rankings.

Yes. Best of the Southwest. Don't have a score but I remember the result having occured.

Mike: And the debate at 152 is Sulzer v Demas. That's the two I was referring to.

I thought you might be thinking McGookey?
