Discussion Topic: Updated Buckeye Roster -- One Surprise

2008-09 roster has been posted to Ohio State website. Here's a breakdown (with advance apologies for any mistakes made).

Incoming Freshmen (weights are those listed on roster):
133: Garrett Henry (Solon)
141: Tony Jameson (Austintown Fitch)
141: Caleb Messerall (Worthington)
141: Brian Kelly (New Albany)
157: Dan Foley (Worthington Christian)
165: Colin Heasley (Worthington Christian)
165: Jared Kusar (Cuyahoga Falls CVCA)
174: C.J. Magrum (Oak Harbor)
174: T.C. Pendleton (Hoover, Alabama)
197: Pat Walsh (Kingston Wyoming Seminary, Pennsylvania)
197: Dominic Jontony (Strongsville)
197: Cody Gardner (Christiansburg, Virginia 2007)
285: John Hiles (Columbus St. Francis DeSales)
285: Dalton Britt (Bellville Clear Fork)

Not Listed: Casey Finnicum, Keaton Thompson -- both had previously been announced as recruits. Evidently they changed their minds.

Transfers:
157: A.J. Agazarm (U of the Cumberlands)
174: Dave Rella (Penn State)
174: John Sinchock (Campbellsville)
197: Dave Crowley (Ashland)

I listed Gardner as a recruit since he never competed for Virginia Tech.

Returning:
125: Bo Touris
125: Pat Harrington
133: Owen Schaefer
157: Sean Nemec
165: Robel Campbell
165: Ross Ambrose
174: Jeremy Sanders
174: Jon Savia
184: Wes Bergman
197: Jason Cook
285: Eric DiAgosta
285: Zach Stolarsky

Returning Starters:
125: Nikko Triggas
133: Reece Humphrey
141: J Jaggers
149: Lance Palmer
157: Jason Johnstone
165: Colt Sponseller
184: Mike Pucillo
197: John Weakley
285: Corey Morrison

Not Listed (presumably not returning):
Will Livingston
Zach Weinrich
Jesse Campbell
Pat Zamaria
Jacob Hale
Brendan Beucler
Tyler Meek
Dominic Mehling

The biggest surprise is Livingston. Evidently he is no longer wrestling or has transferred. I'm sure someone can fill in the blanks. Either way, it's a blow to the Buckeyes. Livingston did a solid job starting as a true freshman and added a quality backup to 133-141 last year.

I agree 100% that Will "the Thrill" missing is a blow! That dude was awesome. I saw him in the room last year and he looked like a different wrestler with the added weight.

I actually sat right behind him at Nationals. Very wrestling-smart. (Not that he's not book or street smart, but I only had access to this part of his brain.)

Thanks for the breakdown.

One question...Do think Cody Gardner tries for 197 or goes 285???

Will Livingston transfered to Virginia Tech.

Cody Gardner could go either Hvwt or 197, as of today. i hear he looks good, too.

I think this hurts the Bucks more than some would think. Jaggers and Hump struggled with weight last year and this was more evident in duals than tournies. It would have been nice to have Livingston to spot start and have Hump wouldn't have to make the cut as many times. I can understand why a wrestler of Will's caliber would want a chance to start next year.

Gardner did compete for Virginia Tech in two dual meets last year -- Penn and Drexel. Apparently, he'll have four years of eligibility as last year was treated as a redshirt/hardship/somethinganother.
