FYI: I don't usually seek out information but I did call someone I knew with ties to the NW program. Their answer--no one knows what happened. The team is in shock.

That definitely lends credence to the idea that this may have been a personal disagreement between him and the A.D. and we may never hear the details.

Who will coach them now in the 11th hour?

Looks like Matt Storniolo is the interim coach. He's been with Northwestern for 6 years, so he knows the team. Not sure if they're ready to hand him the reins full-time, though.
Since his name sounded familiar, I did a little research and found that Storniolo knocked a certain future 2x NCAA champion out of the NCAA tournament during Storniolo's senior year. Anyone care to guess the future champ, who was then a freshman?

Jordan Borroughs! In the consolation bracket.
I only remember because it went to SV and Storniolo won 6-1.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner. Thank you all for playing.
I decided to downplay JB's credentials. It would be too easy to say that he was a 2x NCAA champ, Olympic champ, had a ridiculous undefeated international streak, and doesn't need a saw to cut an assistant in half in his magic act (he just hits a double leg)
